"This is truly “home” to me.
When I came in 1987, I had been a widow for nineteen years, and it was
so nice to become a part of a community who became my immediate friends. From the beginning, I have appreciated the
variety of activities and entertainment that are offered and all the efforts of
the staff to please the residents and take care of their needs.
Since I no longer drive my car, I know I can depend on
Hickory Glen transportation to take me to appointments, church and to shop…that
is great! Food?? I have never gone hungry and always have a
choice! Our dining room staff is great,
and I don’t have to cook, wash dishes and clean."

"I came to Springfield from Florida to live as my
sons live here and my family grew up here until my husband and I retired to the
sunny south. When I realized that my
husband was dying, we returned here. I
lived alone in a condo for a couple of years and realized that I missed
fellowship with others. Hickory Glen has
been a life saver! It is a very pleasant
looking facility with a beautiful library to read and relax in, and a nice
meeting room for activities and other
special events. The staff keeps us busy
and happy with good programs and numerous activities during the week.
I think the most important impressive thing besides the
accommodations is the dining room hours, the choice of several entrees, drinks
and desserts which are offered at each meal.
The staff is very dedicated and concentrates on making the resident
comfortable and content in this time of one’s life when it can be depressing
and uncomfortable. I am so happy that my
family found Hickory Glen for me to live in for the “twilight” of my life."

"I have been a resident at Hickory Glen for just over five years. Before I moved in I visited three friends who were residents and received favorable comments from each of them.
The food is good and is served to us by a great staff of servers in the Oaks Dining Room. The entertainment ranges widely with music, speakers, dancing groups, and singers. Exercise classes are held six days a week.
I spend a lot of time at a jigsaw puzzle table where people stop by to help or just check on the progress. I also manage t
